Ingredients

  • 1 pound 450 g fresh mushrooms (button or cremini), cleaned and stems trimmed
  • 1 cup 120 g all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup 120 g plain breadcrumbs (or panko for extra crunch)
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup 120 ml milk
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano optional
  • Vegetable oil for frying (about 3–4 cups / 700–900 ml)

How To Make Crispy Fried Mushrooms

  1. Step 1 – Prepare the mushrooms:
  2. Rinse mushrooms quickly under cold water and pat dry with a paper towel. Keep them whole if small, or slice larger ones in half.
  3. Step 2 – Set up breading stations:
  4. In one shallow bowl, place the flour.
  5. In a second bowl, whisk together eggs and milk.
  6. In a third bowl, combine breadcrumbs with garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, pepper, salt, and oregano.
  7. Step 3 – Coat the mushrooms:
  8. Roll each mushroom in flour, shaking off the excess.
  9. Dip into the egg mixture.
  10. Finally, coat in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently so the coating sticks.
  11. Step 4 – Heat the oil:
  12. In a deep skillet or Dutch oven, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
  13. Step 5 – Fry the mushrooms:
  14. Fry in small batches for 3–4 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and crispy.
  15. Use a slotted spoon to remove and drain on a plate lined with paper towels.
  16. Step 6 – Serve:
  17. Enjoy hot with your favorite dipping sauce (ranch, garlic aioli, or spicy mayo work great).
