How To Make Caramel Bottom French Toast Bake

  1. French toast will soak overnight, so plan to make this dish the night before!
  2. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  3. Slice bread into slices about 1 ½ inches thick, then set aside.
  4. In a medium-sized saucepan, combine brown sugar and butter. Cook over medium heat for 5-6 minutes, stirring constantly. Stir in vanilla and remove from heat.
  5. Pour caramel mixture into prepared baking dish and place sliced bread in a single layer over caramel.
  6. Whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla, and salt in a medium-sized bowl. Once well combined, pour over bread and press bread down to help absorb the liquid.
  7. Cover tightly with plastic wrap and place in the fridge overnight or for a minimum of 5 hours.
  8. When ready to bake: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  9. Drizzle melted butter over the top of the dish. In a small bowl, mix together cinnamon and sugar, then sprinkle over melted butter.
  10. Bake for 45-55 minutes.
  11. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
