Ingredients

  • ½ cup butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 box yellow cake mix any brand
  • 12 ounce bag of semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Prep the Oven & Pan: Preheat the oven to 350℉ and generously grease a square baking pan (around 8"x8") with non-stick spray.
  • Mix Wet Ingredients: Melt the butter in the microwave, then add it to a large mixing bowl. Mix the melted butter with the eggs using an electric mixer until fully combined.
  • Add the Cake Mix: Add the dry yellow cake mix directly into the wet ingredients and mix again until a thick dough forms.
  • Fold in Chocolate: Add the semi-sweet chocolate chips (oh yes, the whole bag!) and use a spatula to fold and mix all the ingredients together evenly.
  • Press into Pan: Press the thick cookie dough firmly and evenly into your prepared baking dish.
  • Bake: Bake on the center rack for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is beautifully golden brown.
  • Cool & Slice: Let the bars cool completely in the pan before cutting them into squares. The longer they cool, the better they will hold their shape!
  • Serve: Serve your thick cookie bars with a cold cup of milk or a giant scoop of ice cream!

Notes

We cannot stress enough how important it is to let these bars cool completely in the pan before slicing! If you try to cut them while they are still hot, the melted chocolate and warm dough will fall apart and crumble on your knife.
