Ingredients

  • 2 tubes Pillsbury crescent roll dough
  • 1 lb ground beef or ground turkey
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • Water as directed on taco seasoning packet
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 to 2 tomatoes diced
  • 2 cups shredded lettuce
  • 1/2 small can sliced black olives optional
  • Sour cream optional
  • Salsa optional
  • Green onions jalapeños, or avocado, optional

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F. Lightly grease a large baking sheet or pizza pan, or line it with parchment paper.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned and no longer pink. Break it apart as it cooks.
  • Drain any excess grease from the skillet.
  • Add the taco seasoning and the amount of water listed on the seasoning packet. Stir well and simmer for 3 to 5 minutes, or until the mixture thickens. Remove from heat.
  • Unroll the crescent dough and separate it into triangles.
  • Arrange the crescent triangles in a circle on the prepared baking sheet, with the wide ends overlapping in the center and the pointed ends facing outward.
  • Use any extra dough pieces to patch or thicken the center area if needed.
  • Spoon the taco meat evenly around the wide center part of the crescent ring.
  • Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the taco meat.
  • Fold the pointed ends of the crescent dough over the meat and cheese, then tuck the ends underneath the center of the ring.
  • Bake for 18 to 22 minutes, or until the crescent dough is golden brown and cooked through. If the top browns too quickly, loosely cover with foil during the last few minutes.
  • Let the taco bake rest for 5 minutes before serving.
  • Fill the center with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, black olives, sour cream, salsa, or your favorite taco toppings.
  • Slice and serve warm.

Notes

  • Drain the meat well so the crescent dough does not become soggy.
  • Do not add lettuce, tomatoes, or sour cream before baking. Add fresh toppings after the taco bake comes out of the oven.
  • Ground turkey can be used instead of ground beef.
  • For more flavor, add a small can of drained diced green chiles to the taco meat.
  • Use Monterey Jack, Mexican blend, or pepper jack cheese instead of cheddar if preferred.
